For the first time since 2006, the society conducted its 5th convention without a theme but instead, titled it as the HSP 2018 Philippine Liver Meeting to give a signature label for HSP’s biennial scientific conference.

HSP is a 12-year old society whose primary objectives are to promote research and education that will address the development of improved strategies for the control and treatment of liver and biliary tract disease.

The society has actively promoted comprehensive information to the medical community and the public about diagnosis and management of hepatobiliary diseases with emphasis on viral hepatitis B and C.

Held last January 25-26 at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City, this year’s scientific program was highlighted with topics on Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Viral hepatitis, Liver cirrhosis and Hepatobiliary malignancy.

Three state of the art lectures, two clinical debates and two multidisciplinary case discussions were delivered during the meeting.

There were 22 speakers six of which were experts from abroad namely; Dr. Michael Charlton, Dr. Vincent Wong, Dr. Hameed Saeed, Dr. Yi-Hsiang Huang, Dr. Jia-Horng Kao and Dr. Stephen Lam Chan. Five of them were awarded Honorary Membership by the society.

Special citations were conferred to the Cebu Gastroenterologists and the Yellow Warriors Society of the Philippines for their invaluable contribution in the campaign for better liver health.

A total of 573 delegates participated in this scientific conference which concluded with a wholesome fellowship night of good food, fabulous prizes and the amazing voices of Mark Mabasa and Jay Marquez.
