Makati City – Ayala Healthcare Holdings, Inc. (AC Health) and the Ateneo Professional Schools (APS) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding that would enable them to implement synergy programs aimed at improving healthcare for more Filipinos.

AC Health President and CEO, Paolo Borromeo, said that some of these programs are in line with the ongoing development of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the recently signed Universal Health Care (UHC) Act of 2019. Borromeo added that the partnership would ensure active participation of the private sector and academe in the UHC processes.

“AC Health and Ateneo share a common goal of introducing innovative approaches to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare for more Filipinos. We would like to leverage each other’s expertise in order to push this advocacy forward,” Borromeo stressed.

In parallel, Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health Dean, Dr. Manuel Dayrit said that the “partnership aims to raise the standards of primary care practice to a level of excellence which Filipinos deserve. It is a timely partnership as the country embarks on the implementation of the Universal Health Care Act.”

It can be recalled that AC Health and APS staged the first Health Leadership Summit last December 2018, which convened multiple sectors, and talked about the pressing issues involving UHC, such as Financing, Service Delivery Network, and Patient Health-Seeking Behavior. AC Health and APS will continue organizing a series of Health Leadership Summits with the goal of engaging different stakeholders in meaningful discussions on UHC.

Aside from events, AC Health and APS will also collaborate on health human resource training and recruitment, by creating a program that would allow exposure of Ateneo graduate students to AC Health businesses, such as FamilyDOC.

AC Health and APS would also jointly undertake relevant research, such as epidemiologic studies, and health program evaluation.
